Work Scenario in UK
Numerous Indians have some ties with Great Britain more so because India being a member of the Common wealth has had links with Britain for a long time. The restrictions related to employment are far more strict in UK than in USA. Those seeking employment in professional, managerial, executive, technical and scientific fields are serviced by Professional Executive Recruitment (PER) and are eligible for work permits. These Work Permits are also issued only if the applicant satisfies certain criteria. A change in jobs means you have to apply for a new work permit.
However, applications for employment after entry into UK as a visitor or student would be refused unless the conditions on which the entry has been granted left the person free to undertake employment. Unlike as in the US, it is very difficult to change ones status in UK.
Employment for Students
International students with the employment restriction stamp can now work part-time during term-time (up to twenty hours a week) and as many as they like during vacations without needing to apply for permission, provided:
" They are not engaging in business, self-employment or the provision of services as a professional sportsperson or entertainer.
" They are not pursuing a career by filling a permanent full-time vacancy.
Students with prohibitions on working stamped in their passports are not allowed to work under any circumstances. If you have a stamp in your passport stating that you have 'employment prohibition', it means that you cannot work. If you are a prospective student or a full-time student on a course of more than six months but have been given a prohibitions stamp you can apply to the Home Office (form FLR(S)) to have this stamp changed to a restriction. However, the Secretary of State has given general permission to work to all international students who have this stamp in their passport
